SEMCO Liquid Membrane™
Why does elasticity matter in waterproofing? SEMCO Liquid Membrane™ features an incredible 1300% elongation, meaning it can stretch up to 13 times its original length without breaking.
Why is this vital for your floor? Substrates naturally shift due to temperature changes and settling. A rigid coating would snap, causing cracks to telegraph through to your surface. Because SEMCO Liquid Membrane™ is a flexible fracture-resistant membrane, it "bridges" these cracks—stretching over the gap to keep your floor seamless and waterproof, even when the subfloor moves beneath it.
Yes, you can apply SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ directly to bare cinderblock! Just follow these three easy steps to make sure it sticks perfectly:
Clean it first: We highly recommend scrubbing the wall with our cleaners. This gets rid of any stubborn dirt, hard water stains, or "efflorescence" (that chalky white powder that sometimes appears on brick).
Let it dry: Wait until the cinderblock is 100% dry. This is crucial for a good adhesion or bond.
Apply: Roll on at least 2 coats of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️.
The coverage of the SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ is approx. 200 - 250 sq ft per gallon at 2 coats(20mil each coat). For fully submerged or below grade applications we recommend 3 coats and the coverage is then 100 - 150 sq ft per gallon. Coverage may vary depending on porosity of the substrate. For corrugated metal please calculate at least 33% extra material.
Yes, absolutely! Apply the SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ as a primary waterproofing and apply tile over it with your mortar/thin-set.
Yes, absolutely! We recommend a urethane based or water based acrylic paint if you wish to paint over the SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️
- Natural Wood
If you have any wax or existing coating we recommend using SEMCO Power Cleaner and Stone Soap to strip it off. Or use 60 grit sandpaper to lightly sand the surface to take off any dirt or loose coating
- Pools, Ponds, submerged applications
Use SEMCO Nu-Lift Cleaner and Stone Soap to remove any mineral deposits or efflorescence. Remove any loose paint or coating
- Concrete, Cement, Block, Pavers, Synthetic Wood
Use SEMCO Nu-Lift Cleaner and Stone Soap to remove any mineral deposits or efflorescence. If there is any oil or grease, use SEMCO Power Cleaner and Nu-Lift Cleaner to strip surface of any oil or grease
- Metal, Aluminium
Use SEMCO Nu-Lift Cleaner and Stone Soap to chemically etc the surface of the metal for optimal bonding
- Petroleum based coating
Needs to be removed completely prior to application
- Surface Preparation
- Sweep all debris off surface to ensure proper bond. Clean up with water.
- Roller / Brush Application
- Use a 1/2" nap roller. Allow any pre-treated areas to dry. Apply a coat of Liquid Membrane(0.015 inches per coat) with a roller over substrate including pre-treated areas.
- Once the first coat is dry (test by pressing your thumb onto the surface and no imprint is visible), apply another coat of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ over the first coat. Let topcoat dry to the touch, approximately 1–2 hours at 70 °F (21 °C) and 50% RH. When last coat has dried to the touch, inspect final surface for pinholes, voids, thin spots or other defects. SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ will dry to a lighter shade when it’s dry to touch. Use additional SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ to seal the defects. Required thickness is 40 mil
- Sprayer Application
- The sprayer being used for the application of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ should be capable of producing a minimum of 2,500 psi (17.2), maximum of 3,300 psi (22.8 MPa) with a flow rate of 0.95 to 1.6 GPM (3.6 to 6.0 LPM) using a 0.521 or a 0.631 reversible tip. Keep the unit filled with SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ to ensure continuous application of liquid. The hose length should not exceed 100’ (30 m) in length and 3/8” (9 mm) in diameter. Required thickness is 40 mil
Additional Info- For clean up use warm water to clean brush or roller right after use.
- For optimal bonding we highly recommend preparing the surface as mentioned above for best results.
- Stir up the product well before use in order to mix up the color pigments.
- Avoid application in direct sun light in the afternoon or temperatures of over 85F as it might cause the product to dry too fast before it can adhere to the substrate
- Suitable for light foot traffic. For heavy foot traffic or vehicle traffic, we recommend using SEMCO Titan Shield.
- It can not be applied to wet substrates or substrates still containing moisture, else it will not cure correctly and stay tacky. Max. rest moisture in substrate can be up to 3%. If you are unsure about the moisture content, have it measured prior to application.
- For applications where the product is fully submerged, 3 coats @20mil each is required and allow a curing time of minimum 6-7 days. Also application must coat entire surface to above the waterline including tiles. If tiles cannot be coated or you would like to retain its look, use Natural Shield to seal off all grouts.
- Application on non porous surfaces such as metal or fiberglass : Apply thin coats as this will allow for the product to cure faster.
- Cure times are displayed in our curing chart. However if coats have been applied too thick, the surface might feel tacky. This is a sign of trapped moisture. If you have left over product, apply a very thin coat over the entire surface. The surface needs to be fully cured and hard before being fully submerged.
- For applications where SEMCO Liquid Membrane is applied on pool plaster, extended curing times might occur as plaster holds more moisture which needs to breath out first. A slight color change may occur when being in contact with water. This however will not affect the performance of the SEMCO Liquid Membrane.
Utilize Fabric Reinforcement to effectively bridge cracks within the substrate and to reinforce joints where different substrate materials intersect.
Also in showers or balconies, apply Fabric Reinforcement in corners and where the floor meets the wall.

How to apply Fabric Reinforcement
1. Apply a generous coat of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™ over the area where you are about to apply the Fabric Reinforcement.

2. While the SEMCO Liquid Membrane™ is still wet, apply the Fabric Reinforcement and press it flat. It is important to avoid any bubbles or wrinkles.

3. Wait about 10-15 min and then apply a thin coat of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™ over the Fabric Reinforcement to encapsulate it. Do a finger imprint test on the surface, once you do not leave an imprint you can continue to apply SEMCO Liquid Membrane™ to the rest of the surface.

Yes, SEMCO Liquid Membrane™ requires a minimum of 3 coats or a total thickness of between 45-60 mils. Ensure that each coat is dry to the touch or doesn't leave any finger imprint before applying the next coat. Once finished, allow for a minimum of 6-7 days (depending on temperature and humidity) to fully cure before permitting water.
SEMCO Natural Shield
SEMCO Natural Shield can be applied to any porous surface like :
- Brick
- Natural Stone
- Grout
- Concrete
If the surface is painted or sealed, it is best remove the coating completely prior to applying SEMCO Natural Shield as it is a penetrating sealer.
Step 1: Surface Preparation
-
Prepare the area using the appropriate method for your specific surface.
-
Sweep away all loose dirt and debris.
-
Ensure the surface is completely dry before beginning the application.
Step 2: Sealer Application
-
Select your application tool: a 1/4” nap roller, an HVLP sprayer, a pump sprayer, or an airless sprayer (use a size 17 tip).
-
Apply a minimum of three coats to ensure maximum performance and protection.
-
Apply subsequent coats wet-on-wet: Do not allow the sealer to dry between the first, second, and third coats.
-
Spread the product evenly and do not allow the sealer to pool or puddle.
-
Apply additional coats if necessary, as highly porous surfaces (such as raw concrete or block) will likely require more than three coats for full coverage.
