What is the coverage of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️?
The coverage of the SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ is approx. 200 - 250 sq ft per gallon at 2 coats(20mil each coat). For fully submerged or below grade applications we recommend 3 coats and the coverage is then 100 - 150 sq ft per gallon. Coverage may vary depending on porosity of the substrate. For corrugated metal please calculate at least 33% extra material.
What is the cost of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️?
1 gallon of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ costs $109.90 and has a coverage of 200 - 250 sq ft for 2 coats. Let's break it down to the low end of the coverage and it would work you out to only $0.43 per square foot
Can tile be applied on top of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️?
Yes, absolutely! You can apply the SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ on your substrate, apply the SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ as a primary waterproofing and apply tile over it with your mortar/thin-set.
Can one paint over SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️?
Yes, absolutely! We recommend a urethane based or water based acrylic paint if you wish to paint over the SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️
How to apply SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️?
-
Natural Wood
If you have any wax or existing coating we recommend using SEMCO Power Cleaner and Stone Soap to strip it off.
• Or use 60 grit sandpaper to lightly sand the surface to take off any dirt or loose coating
-
Pools, Ponds, submerged applications
Use SEMCO Nu-Lift Cleaner and Stone Soap to remove any mineral deposits or efflorescence
• Remove any loose paint or coating
-
Concrete, Cement, Block, Pavers, Synthetic Wood
Use SEMCO Nu-Lift Cleaner and Stone Soap to remove any mineral deposits or efflorescence
• If there is any oil or grease, use SEMCO Power Cleaner and Nu-Lift Cleaner to strip surface of any oil or grease
-
Metal, Aluminium
Use SEMCO Nu-Lift Cleaner and Stone Soap to chemically etc the surface of the metal for optimal bonding
-
Petroleum based coating
Needs to be removed completely prior to application
- Surface Preparation
- Sweep all debris off surface to ensure proper bond. Clean up with water.
- Roller / Brush Application
- Use a 1/2" nap roller. Allow any pre-treated areas to dry to the touch. Apply a coat of Liquid Membrane(0.015 inches per coat) with brush or roller over substrate including pre-treated areas. Apply another coat of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ over the first coat of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️. Let topcoat dry to the touch, approximately 1–2 hours at 70 °F (21 °C) and 50% RH. When last coat has dried to the touch, inspect final surface for pinholes, voids, thin spots or other defects. SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ will dry to a lighter shade when it’s dry to touch. Use additional SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ to seal the defects. Required thickness is 40 mil
- Sprayer Application
- The sprayer being used for the application of SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ should be capable of producing a minimum of 2,500 psi (17.2), maximum of 3,300 psi (22.8 MPa) with a flow rate of 0.95 to 1.6 GPM (3.6 to 6.0 LPM) using a 0.521 or a 0.631 reversible tip. Keep the unit filled with SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ to ensure continuous application of liquid. The hose length should not exceed 100’ (30 m) in length and 3/8” (9 mm) in diameter. Required thickness is 40 mil
Additional Info
- For clean up use warm water to clean brush or roller right after use.
- For optimal bonding we highly recommend preparing the surface as mentioned above for best results.
- Stir up the product well before use in order to mix up the color pigments.
- Avoid application in direct sun light in the afternoon or temperatures of over 85F as it might cause the product to dry too fast before it can adhere to the substrate
- Suitable for light foot traffic. For heavy foot traffic or vehicle traffic, we recommend using SEMCO Titan Shield.
- It can not be applied to wet substrates or substrates still containing moisture, else it will not cure correctly and stay tacky. Max. rest moisture in substrate can be up to 3%. If you are unsure about the moisture content, have it measured prior to application.
- For applications where the product is fully submerged, 3 coats @20mil each is required and allow a curing time of minimum 6-7 days. Also application must coat entire surface to above the waterline including tiles. If tiles cannot be coated or you would like to retain its look, use Natural Shield to seal off all grouts.
- Application on non porous surfaces such as metal or fiberglass : Apply thin coats as this will allow for the product to cure faster.
- Cure times are displayed in our curing chart. However if coats have been applied too thick, the surface might feel tacky. This is a sign of trapped moisture. If you have left over product, apply a very thin coat over the entire surface. The surface needs to be fully cured and hard before being fully submerged.
- For applications where SEMCO Liquid Membrane is applied on pool plaster, extended curing times might occur as plaster holds more moisture which needs to breath out first. A slight color change may occur when being in contact with water when the product has not fully cured yet. This however will not affect the performance of the SEMCO Liquid Membrane.
Why does my SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ discolor when getting in contact with water?
Product discoloration is a clear sign that the SEMCO Liquid Membrane™️ has not fully cured yet however it will not affect its waterproofing capabilities. It is important to stick within the recommended preparation, re-coating times and thickness per coat. Any deviation may cause an exponentially prolonged drying and curing times.
What if I have already filled the pool/fountain or pond with water?
Best is to drain the pool/fountain or pond and allow curing to happen. In doubt reach out to customer service via call, email or live chat.
